Show DRSVSNG PILES f OR THE TRESTLE Pontoon Driver is Doing- the Work Until New Machine is Received Scarcity of Laborers Skilled in the Work I Material Slow in Arriving. Pending the arrival of the new and improved pllo driver from the east, the Southern Faclflc has commenced the- driving of piles for the new trestle tres-tle for the double-track at the west end of the trestle with a pontoon driver. This work will be continued until enough plies are driven to put up sufficient lengths of trestle so that the new top driver can be unloaded and begin work Immediately upon Its arrival. The material, such as the timbers fur tho caps and the stringers and the piles, are arrHIng slowly but It Is expected ex-pected that by the time the new driver driv-er arrives eory thing w ill be In readiness readi-ness to rush tho work. In Connection with tho delajed arrival ar-rival of tho ne wdrlver from the east, the Southern Pacific company Is also hampered In tho work for want of a gasoline launch or tug The now launch, which has been ordered from San Francisco, Is oxpected dally. This will be used In carrying laborers to End from their work and In towing pl'es and lumber from the shore to the trestle. Tho scarcity of laborers who are trained In water Is also another problem prob-lem the company has to contend with at present. However, It Is expected that there will not be much difficulty In securing the men needed from California Cal-ifornia where the company has used a number of such men In Its employ. |
