Show AIDING THE EXHIBIT 0FART The Child Culture club has accomplished ac-complished something of real value to the schools of Ogden in the last "Art Exhibit." held in tho Library building, and their success in that haa led them to further extend their uuefulneeij. This time they have undertaken un-dertaken to run an excursion to the Lagoon on Tuesday, June 11th. They have succeeded in securing good concessions con-cessions from the managers of the line and the resort, and they hope to make enough money from these concessions to enable them in extend their aid considerably to art in tho public schools. This is a very worthy undertaking and anything that the people of Ogden Og-den cau do in a!d of this excellent cause will be appreciated by lovers of art. The cultural and aesthetic side ot a community is judged largely by Its educational institutions and ltg art collections. In the old centers of Rurope, pueh as Athens, Ttomo, Paris. Horlln and Indon, we would expect to find gnat art collection There has been some complaint of late from Ruroprans that wealthy Americans havo gone to Europe and purchased at enormous prices many of the masterpieces, mas-terpieces, and have enriched the pnl-lerles pnl-lerles of America with these precious pieces "f art Many art lovers of Tub have gone east and purchased at high prices, man very valuable, painting and have placed them in art galleries in our own Male, &omo of which are open to lovers of art for inspection. Ttali has produced i number of very capable artist.-!, an 1 they are giving their time and attention atten-tion to the development of their work In our state. A number of hem. who have shown a bl;;h degree of abllltv, havo gone to the best art schools In America and Europe and have returned re-turned to la bar umong us. A nation, state or city never becomes great in art because, of tho efforts alone of Its artists; patrons of art are necessary. Athens never would have become a center of art because of Phidias, Praxiteles, Pnrrhiuslus. or Apt-lies ' alone, but Pericles, the great statesman states-man and patron of art, threw Athens into the foreground. Ogden Is fortunato in having :i genius of art who has developed himself him-self further In the Julian Academy of Paris His Influence has been felt in the public schools, from the kindergarten kin-dergarten to the nenlor year of tho High school. He is laboring earnestly earnest-ly with the aid of the Child Culture club to establish Ogdvu as an art center. |
