I " An unsuccessful attempt to rob the First National bank of Lajton, seventeen seven-teen miles south of Ogden. occurred early this morning, attended by sensational sensa-tional Incidents. J. Bearden as a suspect. One of the hordes ridden away by the robbers has returned home, coming from the direction of Salt Lake. During the discussion In the vault between Cashier Ellison and the bandits ban-dits as to whether the cashier could open the vault, one of the bandits pro. duced a bottle of nitroglycerine, with which he threatened to blow up the safe. On departure, this bottle was presented pre-sented to the cashier as a souvenir of the occasion. At au early hour I his mrtrnlng Sheriff Wilson was a- vised of the attempted at-tempted robbery and was given a description de-scription of the two men who attempted attempt-ed the crime. While the statement was made that the men had ridden their horses toward Salt Lake, a sharp lookout Is being maintained at all entrances en-trances to the city to lay. The off! cers In Opden are of the opinion that the robbers, upon entering Salt 1-ake City, went to Eomc rooming house where they will remain until an opportunity op-portunity presents Itself for them to make an escape. |
