There is to be a great shaking up in the express business this summer. Wells, Fargo & Co. may lose some of its business and the Pacific Express will expand and the American Express enter this field. Senator Clark, of the San Pedro road, in an interview in Los Angeles, stated that he has signed a contract with the American Express company and that company, on August 1, will displace Wells, Fargo & Co. on the Los Angeles road. The American Express will come over the Union Pacific to Ogden and connect with the Clark road at this point The . Los Angeles Times, commenting on the invasion by the Amerioan Express, says: "Under tho new contract the American, which is the strongest company operating in the East, will, of course, send all eastern business busi-ness handled over the Salt Lake line. This will mean that by far the greater quantity of west-bound express will be handled by the Salt Lake road from points which the American Express company control "It also will mean that service in Los Angeles will be improved through competition, and that the American, which haa one of the best handling systems in the world, will be able to cut into the I Wells-Fargo earnings in Southern California.
