Show CHURCHES OBSERVED FASTDAY QUARTERLY CONFERENCE HELD IN OGDEN TABERNACLE. Stake Reported in Flourishing Condition, Condi-tion, Stake Officers Named and Confirmed. Yesterday was Fast Day with the Latter-Day Saints, and it was duly observed ob-served in Ogden. Fast Day services were held in all of the wards of the city, except that portion embraced wlih the North Weber stake, where the quarterly conference of the stake was held. The conference of the North Weber stake, was held in the Ogden Tabernacle, Taber-nacle, and was largely attended. Tho names of the state authorities were presented to the people aud they were niftained in their various positions. At the forenoon services County Superintendent of School Lars E. Eg-gertson Eg-gertson was tho principal speaker, taking as his text "Tho Exposition ot Mormonism " Elder Expert son is a ery forceful and lluwnt speaker ana ho discusBod his subject in a logical and convincing manner. At the afternoon session of the conference con-ference President' A.' II, Lund, of the first presidency ; of the rhurch. and Apostle David 6 McKay occupied the time as speakers. They spoke of the undue advertising and misrepresentations misrepresenta-tions made of the Mormon people in tiio eastern country referring particularly to. the false reports re-ports published by the newspapers. The apostle contended, however, that notwithstanding the fact that in many instances the . representations made of the Latter-Day Saints and their religion wero false, good results loilowed, because it caused the people of the world to take notice of the people peo-ple and their doctrines, and created a desire on the part of the outside world to investigate and that when the people of the world made a careful care-ful and conscientious investigation ot Mormonism and the Mormon people, that they invariably were tavorably impressed with both the doctrine and the people, and many wero thus brought to a knowledge of the truth and embraced the gospel. The Tabernacle choir furnished the music for both sessions. In tho evening the young peoples' organization of the stake held their conference at the Tabernacle, the music for the occasion being furnished by the soloists, Mrs. Dr. Fred Clarlc and Hagbert Anderson. Apostle David O. McKay was the principal speaker at the night meeting. Most or his remarks re-marks were confined to the giving of advice to the young people as to their duties in the church, particularly as to their duties m their organization. The meeting was largely attended. Tho Sunday school union of the Ogden stake held a meeting in the Fourth ward meeting house yesterday fiiternoon, at 2:30 o'clock, the meeting being presided over by Elder L. S. Hodgson. The speakers wore Elders Samuel Dye and Janette Bingham, ihoy discoursing on th6 Sunday school work that is planned for the month ot April. |
