Show PROPOSED CUT-OFF NOT GOOD FINANCIERING., Tho proposed cutoff fpm the mouth cf Weber canyon, on tho Union Pacific, Pa-cific, to a point on the Oregon Short Line near' Farmlngton, is said to involve in-volve a sand cut or such proportions ap to bo almost impractical. The experience ex-perience with the sand ridge cut-off through which the Oregon Short Line now enters Ogden from the south has demonstrated that there are uncertainties uncertain-ties involved In these deep sand cuts vhlch cannot -bo approximately estimated esti-mated or even anticipated by trained civil engineers. On the Weber canyon cutoff the cut would bo 60 long and deep as to rreBent a great engineering problem end perhaps calls for a vat outlay of money. In addition, a tunnel of great length through this same quicksand formation would be necessary, the construction of which might be more difficult than the excavating of an open cut. And then the object to be attained Is so Infinitesimal, aB compared with the cost of the undertaking, that the whole scheme seems impractical irom a financial standpoint. |
