Show SHOOTS A DENVER WOMAN Fatally Wounds Sister-in-law and Then Kills Himself Denver, March 29. John Collins, father of Mrs. Jesse McDonald, wlte of- former Governor McDonald, this morning shot and fatally wounded Mi6s Sarah Nichols and then killed himself. The shooting took place at the McDonald home, 1151 Logan avenue. ave-nue. The motfve for tho shooting Is unknown. Collins came to Denver recently re-cently from Plattsburg, N. Y. Miss Nichols was Mrs. McDonald's aunt on her mother's side. Collins Is believed be-lieved to have been insane. Mrs. McDonald said that she believed be-lieved her father to have been mentally mental-ly unbalanced from melancholia, ana could ascribe no motive for the shooting. shoot-ing. She said also that there had been no trouble between Mr. Collins ana his sister-in-law and that friendly relationship re-lationship had always existed between them. Yesterday, Mr. Collins, who was t0 years of age, was heard by one of the maids In the McDonald residence to say that he would not live long. He came to Denver about two months ago from Platfsburg, N. Y., his old home and had been living at the McDonald Mc-Donald residence, which had been his habit periodically for many years. He was sitting In a rear room of the house talking to Miss Nichols when she arose and went into another room. Collins followed and, drawing a revolver, re-volver, fired. Miss Nichols fell and Collins then killed hlmseir. . Mlss N!cbols' condition is precarious. Former Governor McDonald Is on bis way from Leadville, having been Informed of the tragedy in his home. |
