Show PRISONER DIED ON ROAD TO JAIL Melburn, Cal., Mrch 28. Although Ehot through the lungs, the bullet passing through his body and out of his back, Lewis Nellson, who was arrested ar-rested by- Night Watchman George Scott early today at Lincoln, endeavored endeav-ored to escape and would not sUp until un-til Scott fired another shot over his head. Not knowing that Nellson w-os wounded, the watchman started to walk his prisoner to Jail, and they had gone some distance before Nellson fell, expiring in a few moments. Nellson had been arrested for disorderly disor-derly conduct and resi6ted the officer, seizing his club and striking him repeatedly. re-peatedly. Scott drew his revolver and struck his prisoner In the head without with-out effect Nellson came at him again and Scott fired. Nellson turned and ran and Scott halted him with a shot over his head. As they went toward the Jail Nellson suddenly collapsed and on examination Scott found that tho first bullet had passed through his chest, tearing Its way out at his back. . |
