Show STRATFORD FACED 'k HOLD-UP Frank Stratford, president of tho Weber county school board and a resident res-ident of Wilson, had a narrow escape from a highwayman a few nights ago, although the facts in the case havo been well kept both from the police and the- public. Mr. Stratford had been in town to attend an Important meeting in tho evening and had also collected a considerable con-siderable sum of money after banking bank-ing hours, which he had in his pos-, session when leaving for home. Ho had entered Wilson's Lane and proceeded but a short distance when he notlcod a man, who had been approaching ap-proaching along the left-hand side of the road, cross over to tho side upon which Mr. Stratford was drlving.When opposite the rig, the man, whoso features fea-tures were conccalod by. the brim of a slouch bat, suddenly commended Mr. Stratford to halt. Instead of complying, com-plying, the prospective victim struck I his horse a quick blow with the whip, ' causing the animal to plunge forward and pass the hold-up man at a gallop. gal-lop. The latter continued to threaten Mr. Stratford and command him to halt until out of hearing, which only had the effect of causing the latter to drive faster. He reached home, done the worse for his adventure, and is congratulating himself over his narrow nar-row escape. |
