Show COMMITTEE SELECTED BY fcA.R. TO CONFER WITH OFFICIALS REGARDING RE-GARDING RAILROAD RATES. t Mayor Brewer to Send Invitation in Behalf of Ogden City to President Presi-dent Taft. The Dlx-Logan Post committee of Ogden having in hand arrangements for the entertainment of the old soldiers sol-diers of the nation who will visit Utah during the national encampment to bo held In Salt Lake next August together to-gether with committees appointed from the Weber club, the Chamber of Commerce and the Retail Merchants' association of Ogden. met at tho Weber We-ber club rooms last evening for the purpose of taking some doflnlte action ac-tion regarding the securing of special spe-cial railroad rates btween Ogden and Salt Lake during the time of the encampment. en-campment. The matter was considered in all of its phases, the ultimate conclusion being that an effort should be put forth to secure a railroad rate that would enable tho Grand Array visitors to spend a part pf their time, at least, in Ogden. To this end a committee was appointed to take the matter up with the railroad companies and see what could be done. The committee appointed ap-pointed was as follows: F. J. Keisel, chairman ; Joseph Scowcroft, Mayor Brewer. E T. Hulaniskl and W. M. Bostaph. Tho committee was authorized and instructed to immediately begin work toward securing the rates desired and it is said by members of the committee commit-tee that no time will be lost in the matter. In the face of the fact that it has been announced that President Taft will visit Utah at the time of the Grand Army encampment, it waa arguod that steps should be taken to have him visit Ogden during that time. It was finally decided that the mayor of the city should extend an' Invitation to the president to visit Ogden Og-den while in the state and the chief executive of the city was so Instructed. It is contemplated by the committee commit-tee that if the president accepts tho invitation, special arrangements frr his entertainment will be made. The idea prevailed that if President Taft decides to come to Ogden the day of his viplt here wiirhecomc the "Ogden Day" of the national encampment and that all the Grand Army visitors to I the state will be Invited and expected J to visit the city on that day. Reduced railroad rates are espe- ; cially desired between Salt Lake and Ogden during he time of the encampment encamp-ment because' a large number of the old soldiers who contemplate visiting Utah at that time have expressed a desire to take up quarters in Ogden. They, however, cannot well afford to do this unless the railroad rate between be-tween the two cities is reduced to a point Vhere the expense of moving from one cltv to the other would be within reason. According to statements state-ments by some who profess to know it Is very certain that a low rate for the round trip between Ogden and Salt Lake can be secured, but a strong effort ef-fort will be put forth on the part or the committee to get a 25 cent rate. |
