Show SHORT LINE BLOCKED BY WASHOUT THREE HUNDRED FEETOFTRACK WASHED AWAY. Trains for Portland Are Being Detour-ed Detour-ed Through Ogden Floods Are Doing Much Damage. As a result ot a disastrous washout near Fossil, a little station forty mlleo west of Granger on the Idaho division divis-ion of the Oregon Short Line, all passenger pas-senger trains between Portland and Granger are now being detoured through Ogden and sent from this city north to Pocatello. The first washout occurred Satur-j Satur-j day night, and was of minor Importance, Import-ance, the opinion prevailing that a few hours would suffice to put tho track in condition for service again, Lut a second washout occurred last i night, and between two and three hun- dred feet of track will now have to I be rebuilt entirely before train service is again resumed between Granger I and Pocatello. Until this is done, and I it will require several days even with the large force of men now employed in the work trains from both directions passing through Pocatello and Granger, Gran-ger, will be sent through Ogden. Fossil is located In the center, of a mountainous region and the recent warm weather hag resulted in high water at various points between Gran-I Gran-I ger aud Montpelier. 1 A similar condition obtains at many 1 points on the Union Pacific between Ogden and Green River, where high I water troubles are expected this spring, but Superintendent Whitney , has placed special track forces all I along the threatened districts and is , taking every precaution possible against the floods . from mountain streams. |
