Salt Lake, Jan. IS. J. D. Wood, the millionaire sheepman anil mine owner, own-er, was struck and Instantly killed by a Union Pacific engine. In the Oregon Short Line railroad yards at 9:15 last evening. His body was found twenty minutes later by Chaumey Manspeak-er, Manspeak-er, a car inspector. The right arm and left foot were both cut entirely from the body and his head crushed. Just how the accident occurred no one knows as there were no witnesses to the tragedy. Mr. Wood In company with John Kirby, went to' the Oregon Short Line depot shortly after 9 o'clock last evening to take the Salt I Lake Route train No. 1 for Ploche. ' Soon after his arrival at the depot Mr. Wood bought a railroad ticket to Cal-iente Cal-iente and a Pullman sleeping car ticket. tick-et. He then carried his suit ase to the sleeper, which he gave to tho porter. This was the last time Mr. Wood was seen alive. About 9:35 o'clock Chauncey Man-speaker, Man-speaker, a car Inspector, was inspecting inspect-ing the trucks of Oregon Short Line train No. 9 which was standing on tho west side of the train near the last car. A short distance up the track he noticed what he at first thought to be a bundle of rags. On closer examination examina-tion he discovered tho body of Mr. Wood. |
