Show SUBPOENAES CREATE SOME EXCITEMENT. Wahington, Jan. 17. The latest suggestion sug-gestion regarding yesterday's sensational sensa-tional developments regarding the service ser-vice of subpoenaes on newspapers in this city and elsewhere Is that an Individual In-dividual and not the United States government is the real plaintiff in the case. It is true that the subpoenaes served here read "The United States, versus The Press Publishing Company." Com-pany." But if the proposed action is criminal, as Is It generally assumed to be, tiat would be the form of a subpoenae even where an individual is the complainant, according to tho practice In the District of Columbia. The identity of this Individual or In dlviduals is purely a matter of speculation, specu-lation, for the public will havo to await the Issue of the promised statement state-ment of Attorney General Bonaparte. |
