Show Smile Barge With Four Hen and a Woman Aboard Is Help less on Lake Erie Sandusky, Ohio, April 7. The barge Norman Kciley, with four men and a woman aboard, is drifting helplessly before a sixty mile gale off Kelley's IsIanJ. The barge broke away from hc-r dock ai Kelley's Island early today as a result of the high wind and heavy seas. A tug from here Is attempting to rescue the barge and its crew. The barge was last seen near here at noon today when it was helng carried car-ried swiftly to the northeast. The members of the crew were then standing stand-ing on the deck waving frantically to their friends on the Island. Their names are Joseph Ence, Charles Char-les Todd, Mrs. Woods anJ a deckhand named James. All of them are from Cleveland. Captain J. N". . Todd, owner of the drifting barge, summoned the steamer Secor from Sandusky to the rescue. The boat was driven back by the wind when twenty miles out. The passengers passen-gers are at" the mercy of the water. There is no way by which they can change the course of the boat as it is without an engine. Neither are there any prolsions aboard. |
