Prey at Washington, Washing-ton, is attributed, is the local or col- I loquial nae of a rare disease known as coccldoiddes. a fungus which at-1 tacks th skin and then the inner tissues tis-sues of the human body and has near-1 ly all the symptoms of tuberculosis of the lungs, according to Dr. Fred F. Gundrum. vice president of the California state board of health. The disease first was discovered about 15 years ago by Dr. William Ophuli of Stanford university, Dr. Gundrum stated. The disease in its spread, Dr Gundrum Gund-rum said, very often attacks the brain, and then it symptoms are similar to those of meningitis. It nearly always is fatal. It Is a chronic, slow growing grow-ing affection of which so little is known that its treatment Is difficult. The name of Ran Joaquin Valley disease dis-ease was attached to th ;iffe,-tlon because be-cause for several years that section of the state of California was the only known source. However, in recent years other cases have been found in various localities of the country. |
