Saturday. Jan. to continue until Jon. 15. will be the great num-! ber of foreigner who will visit N". v. York for the display The National Automobile Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the national show In I New York as well ns In Chicago, h s been notified that persons prominent In the automobile Industry from practically prac-tically all parts of the world will b here to look over the latest in Amer-1 lean car design and engines. There Is a good reason for this. It I principally 1 Ing in the fact that dur- Ing the four years of war In Europe. 1 , there was practically nothing done In j ' developing tho motor car. Now that t I there Is a chance for the Industry to 1 I resume operations abroad, the foreign j I manufacturers are looking to see what I America has accomplished, and fori this reason representatives of many countries will visit the show. Already i I S. A Miles, general manager of both ' shows. has received letters from i France. Belgium. England. Italy. ! South America and Canada. Every state In the union will be represented at the exposition. Mr. Miles spent loM week In Chl-1 Chl-1 cago attending to some details of the Windy City show. but. has returned to N v York and Is now completing all ntotters pertaining to the Palace ox-j position. EXGHTT-EIGD i EST ER. There will be eighty-eight manufac-l turers of motor cars in this year's exposition. The several hundred models mod-els to be displayed will show many changes In body lines, and improvements improve-ments will be noted In motors also.' I Many of these are the result of war experiments and they were not fully ' developed for last year's show. The attention of visitors to the show will surely turn to the engines this year. A summary of the manufac-i manufac-i tnrlng field, Including some 200 make of care, shows that 37 1-2 per cent use four cylinder engines; 54 per cent the six-eyhnder type; 6 1-2 per cent the eight-cylinder model. These statistics sta-tistics ure based on the type of engine used and nt on the quantity of cars produced. Un the latter basis the four-cylinder four-cylinder engines are far in tne lead. When the six cylinder engine was firet adopted by several manufactur-i manufactur-i ers. the lour wils the accepted stand-j stand-j ard and mu h discussion in comparing compar-ing the two types followed. Then j came the eight and twelve cylinder designs and the.xe jir-oused further ar-: ar-: gument. There are variations In tho engines, dual valves and "V designs 1 being prominent. The latest addition j to many types Is an elght-ln -a-row type. rMst in one block. There Is no doubt but that each type of engine has Its intrinsic value, but many manufacturers have made a success in developing and concentrating concentrat-ing on the one particular design Un v believe best for their product. The automobile show gives the motor cr enthusiast a chance tn compare all types within s few hours, at most, tor they will all be on the four floors of i the Palace. |
