FOR XMAS GIVEN BY FIRE CHIEF With Christmas approaching and many families making preparations pre-parations to Install Christmas trees within their homes, warning has been Issued by Chief G A. Graves of the Ogden fire department depart-ment for citizens to exercise precaution pre-caution In trimming the trees to eliminate fire hazards Many children chil-dren are burned to death each year, the fin chief said, through cvarelessness In decorating and allowing the children to play unattended un-attended about the trees. Chief Graves asks that trees contain no paper, cotton or other , highly inflammable material when I candles are used. He suggests metallic tinsel and other non-inflammable material Tho trco should be securely fastened to the floor so that it cannot be tipped over by the children. "Do not use cotton to represent snow," he warns, "use powdered mica or asbestos Instead "Do not permit children to light or re-llght candles while parents are not present. Tree lighting by electricity is much more safe than i candles. "Do not leave matches within the reach of children at holiday time The children may tr to Imitate their parents in lighting the tree when no person Is present and danger will result. "Do not allow the trees to remain re-main long In the house after Christmas. The needles become dry and highly Inflammable. Many fires result during January due to this cause." on |
