Show I MEETING ' III NEW dPELi . s ! Member!3 of Fourteenth Ward Hear Address by President L. W. Shurtliff. President L. W. ShurlHff of the Weber stake delivered an address to the members of the Fourteenth ward ycstcrday'nfternoon on the occasion of ' the opening: of the new ward building for all meeting's and ward activities. Since tho organization of the ward, over a year ago, the meeting's have been held' in the Ninth ward amusement amuse-ment hall on Thirty-first street and Torter avenue, to tho great disadvantage disadvan-tage of tho members who reside in the south part of the ward, and there was a spirit of rejoicing yesterday at , tho opportunity now afforded to attend at-tend meetings in a building that is centrally located In the ward. Meetings were held for the priesthood priest-hood at 9 o'clock. Fast services were held in the afternoon and In the evening eve-ning there was a meeting of the ward mutuals- iThc Sunday school has not yet been organized but it is expected that the organization will be effected before the end of the present month. The new building- is not ,vot fully completed and the members of the ward priesthood will donate their labor la-bor this evening1 In an effort lb com-plcto com-plcto the construction work. Tomorrow Tomor-row evening- the 'members of the Boy Scouts will render assistance at the new building". President Shurtliff in his address congratulated the bishopric and members mem-bers of the ward for the things they had accomplished during the past jear, especially In tho matter of tho construction of tho new building. Ho predicted that the ward would prosper pros-per and would become a , power for good In the south part of town. The veteran stake president then reviewed re-viewed the activities of the church from its earliest days to tho present in the matter of building meeting rbeen made, from tho old log buildings , to the present handsome temples and r churches that now adorn the various . - - cities In this state. President Shurtliff also recallod tho labors of the early members of the church and boro testimony testi-mony that he knew that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God.' At the evening meetings a varied I program, of instrumental and vocal se-i se-i lections, demonstrations of the Girls' Beehive work, and short talks were given, under the auspices of the Mu-' Mu-' tual Improvement association. Xext Wednesday evening at S ' o'plock a social, will be held in the new, ward halL for the benefit of all t the members of the ward who are in- f vltod to be present. There will be no charge for admission. A program of ' dancing- and 'other features Is being j arranged for the social by the officers j of the ward mutuals. i |
