Andrew Furesoth, American delegate dele-gate and president of the International Interna-tional Seamen's union, pointed out that at present EuVopcan seamen have tho status of "serfs." Ho explained that the American seamen's act is not for the purposo of getting foreign sailors aboard American vossels, but to Induce American citizens to go to sea. which, ho said, thoy would not do because their status was not of free men. As a result of this law, he declared, native na-tive Amorlcans going to sea have increased in-creased from about 7 por cent to 47 per cent in tho last four years. oo |
