Show I BUILDING HAS SLOWED DOWN. Though there is shortage in housing facilities in many parts of the United States, building is not progressing as it should For the past seven months the total value of tin- permits issued in 102 cities does not equal that of the same period in 1919 A number of large cities show increases. Boston has been building build-ing at a rapid rate, also Atlantic City, Los Angeles, Portland. Ore., and Chicago, but New York has declined, also Philadelphia, Pittsburg Pitts-burg and St. Louis In August, 1 0 1 0. the value of the building permits in Detroit was nearly ten million dollars. This Augusl M was only $2, 932,000 Cleveland dropped from $7,500,000 to $2,860,000; Toledo from $1,041,000 to $584,000 and Youngstown from $1,680,000 to $180,000. Dallas and Fort Worth combined fell from $5,800,000 to $1,100,000 In the west the same story is told. Butte's building in August got down to $12,000. Boise only had $32,600 and Denver $340,000 Salt Lake dropped from 47 Uihi ,n August I'.'l'J. to s.;7.tuu m August. 1920. With the tendency of the price of building materials downward an improvement in city construction should be recorded this fall and next year. |
