Show CHILD LABOR DAY. The statement of Herbert Hoovor that "there is absolutely nothing in our national life of more importance than Ihc child labor problem," is given emphasis i'n connection with the announcement an-nouncement that Child Labor Day is to be observed In many churches next Sunday, January 2-1. Secretary Lane, Secrotary Baker, Commissioner of Education Claxton and Miss Julia C. Lathrop, chief of the federal children's bureau, are among those who are urging a general observance of Child Labor Day. Through the Child Labor committee Secrotary Lane made the following statement: "Child labor will soon be a thing unknown. The child will be given its chance to grow. But work tjy children on things that are not drudgery an:l do not impair health or spirits will more and more come to be recognized as educational. 'We know only what wo dp,' is at least more than half true. And the child lhal trains hand and eye and brain to work together is being educated. Experience has shown that a fixed limit must be set by law, else the exploiters will lake advantage of the necessities of the parents. Now, that we are coming to a minimum wage, the necessity will grow less. 1 1 can not say, 'Let no child work,' for I believe in the idea of work being put I into the heads of the young, and I believe in the value of work to the young but not monotony, not anything any-thing that does not tend to make a more complete citizen in the long i run."
