Show THEY WOULD BURN AND MURDER. Nothing so revolutionary has been unearthed in this country in' years as the plans of the Federation of Unions of Russian Workers of the United Slates and Canada, just brought to light by the department i of lusticc in Washington. Tliis organization had urged murdei and arson. The lea lers had ! planned lo shoot down and burn. A part of their declaration follows: ' "What must we do, the vanguard of the, proletariat? We must consciously hasten the elementary movement of the slnig- gle of the working class ; we must convert small strikes into general gen-eral ones, and convert the latter into an armed revolt of the laboring la-boring masses against capital and state. "At the time of this revolt we must at the first favorable opportunity op-portunity proceed to an immediate seizure of all means of pro ducttion and all articles of consumption, and make the working class the masters in fact of all general wealth. At the same time we must mercilessly destroy all remains of governmental author-. author-. ily and class domination, liberating the prisoners, demolish prisons pris-ons and public offices, destroy all legal papers pertaining to private pri-vate ownership of property ; all field fences and boundaries, and burn all certificates of indebtedness in a word, we muft take care that everything is wiped from the earth that is a reminder of the right to private ownership of property; to blow up bar-. bar-. racks, gendarme and police administration, shoot the most prom inent military and police officers, must be the important con-' 1 cem of the revolting working people." j Declaring their hate for religion, the atheists offer this explanation I H of their denial of all gods: I "We hate religion because it lulls the spirit with lying tales, '. takes away courage and faith in the power of man, faith in the j triumph of justice here on the real earth and not in a chimerical I heaven. Religion covers everything with fog, real evil becomes . I visionary, and visionary good a reality. It has always sanctified i I slavery, grief and tears. And we declare war upon all gods and j religious fables. We arc Atheists. I j "We hate slavery in all its forms. And is a "free workman", y I not a slave? Does the knout of the master not hang ever the sr. J head of the proletariat? The workman has ceased being the Vjfj slave of one lord, of one master. But is he not the slave of the j&jf whole class of masters? Let the present-day slave rise and cast r?M off his lord it is all the same; hunger will drive him to another master, and the collar of perpetual toil, hunger and slavery will be lightened upon him anew. It is necessary to tear up by the roots the division of people into lords and slaves. We are Communists. Com-munists. "We hate authority, the eternal preserver of slavery and foe of freedom. The lords having been destroyed, why leave the whip of the lords; the power of capital having brcn destrcyed, why allow its safeguaid, the state, to remain? Dors giving man bread mean depriving him of freedom? Even pig in tScir sty have food. Not to the happiness of citizenship do we call the workers we call them to liberty to absolute liberty. We are anarchists." Americans only now are discovering the nature of pat; of certain foreign elements admitted to this country in the past decade. 1 The men who have assassinated our presidents have had no more uc-structive uc-structive theories than the authors of the foregoing proclamations. 1 With large bodies of foreigners invading this land, possessing hatreds so intense and subversive of orderly government, there is need of closing our doors to the firebrands and murderers. |
