Show PRISON SENTENCES j FOR SOCIALISTS SIOUX FALLS, S. D.. Nov 2. Prison sentences ranging from ono year and a day to five years were imposed on the 27 Gorman Socialists, convicted convict-ed hero last week for conspiring to obstruct ob-struct tho selective draft, in federal court here today hy Judge Youmans. Finos ranging from $300 to $1000 also were assessed against the men. August Freidrlch, alleged leader of the conspiracy, con-spiracy, was fined $1000 and sentenced to five years In prison. Motions for a new trial were denied The men will be sent to the federal prison at Leavenworth, Kan. The twenty-seven Socialists, most of whom aro farmers, were arresttd by the federal officers near Tripp, S. D last August after they had addressed several Intimidating petitions to county coun-ty and state officers who were administering admin-istering the draft. Ono of the petitions peti-tions was sent to Governor Norbeck. The government introduced ovidenco during their trial to prove thut the men had combined to obstruct tho operation of tho draft law in Hutchinson. Tholr conviction was secured under the espionage espi-onage act. Twenty-eight men in all wore indicted indict-ed by tho federal grand jury as a result of the draft opposition In Hutchinson county.
