Show UTAH SOLDIER . SLASHES THROAT CAMP LEWIS, Wash., Nov. 5. Worry over being separated from his young wife nnd despondent because he could not be exempted to rejoin his bride caused Joseph Kalac of Hiawatha, Hia-watha, Utah, to attempt suicide in nn unusual manner here Sunday afternoon. after-noon. Kalac, who Is a member of C company, com-pany, 3G2nd infantry, went to tho water's edge of American lake Sunday afternoon, cut his throat and made a gash in his abdomen. After these painful pain-ful self-injuries had been inflicted, he jumped into tho lake in an effort to drown himself. W. H. Parrot and L. F. Bravot, who camo hero from Fresno, Cal., were passing and heard Kalac!s crios. They leaped into the lake and rescued the drowning man, later taking him to the base hospital. Kalac was in a delirious state tonight to-night and threatened with pneumonia. His cuts were pronounced as serious. |
