West, supreme commander of the association, associa-tion, to organize at once in giving efficient ef-ficient aid to the government and civic civ-ic authorities in checking the Spanish influenza. As tho association has well established estab-lished hospital committees and a membership mem-bership of 195,000 women throughout the United States, it Is well equipped to give Its help. The organization is represented in this locality by Silver Review with Mrs. Gertrude Weaver as commander, and Miss L. Jennie Prout as record keeper. Attractive cards with definite instructions in-structions as to preventive precautions precau-tions havo been sent out and placed In the homes of tho membership. A copy of the instructions is herewith here-with given for the benefit of Ogden at large: What to Do to Prevent Influenza. 1. Ertt regularly, plain wholesome food. 2. Get eight hours' sleep out of the twenty-four. 3. Keep house well ventilated. 4. Avoid crowds, dusty rooms, or public gatherings. 5. General symptoms are acute sudden onset, chills, severe headache, backache, prostration, fever, sneezing, and sometimes sore throat. 6. Don't worry, but heed suggestions, sugges-tions, for while needless panic is to be avoided, early recognition and care safeguard you and your family. 7. Keep away from other people. Do not kiss any one. Avoid people suffering suf-fering from colds. 8. Do not cough or sneeze except when a handkerchief is hold before your face. 9. Keep your hands clean, and keep them away from your mouth. 10. Avoid wet foot and wet clothes. Wot shoes and wet clothing are dangerous dan-gerous and should bo removed as soon as possible. What to Do If You Have Influenza. 1. Don't neglect first symptoms go to bed in a well ventilated room, and send for doctor. Spray the nose and throat with Dobell's solution, using an atomizer. Thoroughly cleanse atomizer ato-mizer after using. Any druggist can make Dobell's solution. so-lution. If an atomizer is not at hand, garglo throat and wash out nose with ono teaspoonful Dobell's solution to glass of water. 2. Use a cathartic, a doso of salts, or castor oil. 3. Stay in bed,- and keep as quiet as possible until your physician says you are ready to get up. Pneumonia is the complication most to bo feared. The "ounce of prevention" Is needed in influenza. 4. Aftor you aro allowed to get up, avoid chilling and ovordolng. 5. The after effects of influenza are worse than the disease take caro of yourself and avoid complications. |
