Show PENSK GI1TED TO . WIDOWS OF FORMER SOLDIERS Congress on July 16, 1918, passed a law granting pensions to widows and minor children of officers and enlisted men who served in the war with Spain or Philippine insurrection, or the Chinese Chi-nese Boxer rebellion. Tho soldier must have served at least 90 days between April 21, 1898, and July 4, 1902, and have been honorably hon-orably discharged. If he dies leaving a widow without means or support other than her daily labor, or an actual net income not exceeding $250 a year, she will be entitled to a pension during dur-ing her widowhood of $12 a month, with $2 a month for each child of the soldier under 16 years of age. The law previously authorized such pensions but the applicant had to provo that the soldier died as the result re-sult of injuries or disease growing out of army or navy service. Tho now act "of congress expressly exempts tho widow from proving the soldier's dealh to be the result of his army or navy service. |
