Show INAUGURATE AIR I Y. TO CHICAGO 1 NEW YORK. Dec. 17 Air mail service ser-vice between New York and Chicago will be inaugurated tomorrow when the first machine will leave here from Belmont Park at 6 a. m. K The eastbound service, however, will not be started at the same time, because be-cause of a misunderstanding witli the war department, according to an announcement an-nouncement here tonight. Machines now are being rushed to the western terminal and may reach Chicago some time tomorrow. Leon D. Smith, formerly a civilian army aviator instructor, will pilot the first New York-Chicago mail airplane, 1 carrying the 400 pounds of mail as far as Bellfont, Pa., where a second pilot in another machine will relay It to Cleveland. He is scheduled to reach Cleveland shortly before noon and a third pilot and another machine will carry the mail for Chicago and the wesL This machine is expected to reach Chicago about 3:30 o'clock tomorrow to-morrow afternoon. nn |
