Show IPOMPTON LAKES. N. J.. Dec. 5 Ten men were killed and twenty-three injured here late today by four explosions explo-sions which destroyed Ihe detonator assembling building of the du Pont cap -works and shook the country-side for miles around. Fire which followed the explosions was confined to the one1 unit and the properly loss wassaid to be slight. Officials of the company said tonight they believed an employe at work" assembling as-sembling French fuse detonators which are filled with fulminate of jnercury, had dropped one of them. Ex- ploding, this had set off the stock in the building which', officials claimed contained only twenty -fjve or thirty pounds of fulminate, and said a few other also employed there had escaped. The company employes in all approximately ap-proximately 1,000 persons at its Porup-ton Porup-ton Lakes plant. |
