Show British Amateur Stars Expected Here in 1928 An Invasion of British amateur golfers is expected in 1928. According Accord-ing to advance reports from abroad, Britain will send a group of players here to compete for the Walker cup, generally played for every two years. Because of the probability of a British Invasion, the United States Golf association recently decided to hold its amateur championship tournament tour-nament of 1928 somewhere in .the East. Considerable pressure had been brought to bear to send tlie 1928 tournament tour-nament to the Far West, which has never yet had a national tourney. The amateur event goes half-way across the continent this year. George Von Elm will defend his hard-won honors this year at the MInnekahda Country club, In Minneapolis. The , tournament should be one of the most stirring In history, with Von Elm facing fac-ing not only Bob Jones, but also a resuscitated Jess Sweetser. The record for the open championship-was established some years back at MInnekahda by Chick Evans, still one of the nation's leading amateurs. |
