German resistance on the southern sectors of tho salient had been reduced to a mere shell, it is added. WITH THE FRENCH" ARMY IN FRANCE, July 25. (By the Associated Press). (Morning) Owing to tho defection de-fection of Russia the Germans have been able to place 210 divisions on the uest front. When the present battle began the Germans had 28 divisions on the field westward from Rheims to Chateau Thierry. Now the front has been widened wid-ened to the Aisne and tho Germans have scurried more forces into tho line, bringing the total to over 40 and placing plac-ing a considerable strain upon their resrves. They still have reserve divisions behind be-hind their lines, hjit many of their units have been sorely tried and it is questionable whether they are sufficiently suffi-ciently recuperated to participate in any new attack. oo |
