Show JEW ADMITS HIS PEOPLETOBLAME F0RP0GR0MS WARSAW, via Vienna, Sunday, Dec. 15. (By the Associated Press) While there has been talk in (he outside world of disorderly conditions in Poland Po-land It would acem that there have been gross exaggerations as to conditions condi-tions here. Unbiased and senil-neu-tral opinion is expressed to the correspondent cor-respondent by Leon Coldstand, a member mem-ber of the Polish Conservative party, although a Jow, who said: "The whole agitation seems to mo to be largely manufactured and based on false rumors. "From what I know, I bolleve these rumors were started by a large number num-ber of JewB Interested In securing peculiar pe-culiar political rights of their own," he continued. "It Is my opinion that if the Jews would accept Polish na-MnnaUfv na-MnnaUfv and anL in th intorosL of Po land, they would be adopted as political politi-cal equals by. every one. "During German occupation of Poland Po-land Jews were employed as food buyers buy-ers and army furnishers by the German Ger-man army officers.. They grew rich by this work and there is now a natural nat-ural suspicion among Poles that tho Jews wished to defeat the attempt to unite Poland and that they are acting as tools for the Russian Bolshevists." Professor E. Romer of the University Universi-ty of Cracow, pointed out that there Is no doubt that there Is a large number num-ber of Jews In Poland who are attempting at-tempting to claim international citizenship. citi-zenship. "There are three parties of Jews in Poland," he said. "Those wishing fo be Poles; Zionists wishing to eniub-l lish themselves In Palestine but prlv-1 llcgcd to travel and live elsewhere,, and nationalists, by which I incun those wishing to live among the Poles but having spocial privileges which would make them a separate body of citizens. The last Jtwo-classes have been especially opposed by the Polish government. "The Poles have recently formulated formulat-ed Uo popular charges against (hf Jews. First, that they specul.Vcd in foodstuffs and clothing, raised prices and worked into the hands of the Germans; Ger-mans; second, that the attempted to get Lemberg included' in Ukranlau territory ter-ritory for the alleged purpose of securing se-curing Ukraine for themselves. Those two reasons have been the cause of j pogroms, but those disorders have I been limited and only a fow persons I have been killed. In Lemberg. however, how-ever, there seems little doubt that the Jews failed to support the Poles in defending the place; if they did noi actually help the Ukranlans with money mon-ey and men." |
