Show overSinf. COLOGNE. Friday. Dec. 13. The final phase of the occupation of German Ger-man territory by the British army, as specified by the armistice, was being worked out today. Three divisions of Infastry. made formal entry into Cologne this morning morn-ing and crossed tho great bridge over the Rhine to follow the cavaljy out, to the semi-circular line which is being be-ing established about the bridgehead A similnr operation is beng conducted conduct-ed at Bonn, on the Rhine south of Cologne. Co-logne. General Plumer, the British commander, com-mander, was here to review the troops. Scotch, English and Canadian infantry infan-try passed through Cologne with full equipment and made a fine showing, although - it was raining heavily and the men were drenched. Notwithstanding the downpour, thousands thou-sands of civilians lined tho routes of the march and stood patiently under umbrellas in order to see the British soldiers. The crowds displayed no hostility hos-tility and appeared to be merely curious. cur-ious. General Plumer remained at his post at the reviewing point until the last soldier had passed by without apparently appar-ently having given a thought to the rain. |
