TUESDAY HI I Willi the view of completing their campaign with a whirlwind Qnlsh the I Knights o Columbus are offering a J vaudeville show at the Orphoum to- I morrow night. This action ou tho part ' of tho Knights Is taken with the Idea ' of giving everyone in the city a chance ! to participate in the movement. Utah if? practically the last state in the union I to conduct such a campaign and the 1 state has been assessed $25,000 as Its sharo of the $3,000,000 War Camp fund. Tho money so raised will go towards erecting and maintaining additional I recreation centers at the various traiu- . ! ing camps. Already nearly 100 such buildings are In operation but more aro needed and the cost of mainten-1 mainten-1 anco Is enormous. 1 At Camp Kearny, one of-the Knights I of Columbus' buildings, which is the I largest on the grounds, is situated di rectly adjoining the camp of tho Utah bovs. At this building, which bears the ' invitation over thu main entrance "Everybody Welcome," facilities for letter writing aro provided the men and stationery is furnished without charge to all. In addition there arc provided billiard tables, phonographs and player pianos. The American ' Library association, which Is co-oper ating with the Knights of Columbus, provides a selected library of over 1500 volumes and tno reading room Is pupplled with copies of all current papers and magazines. Hero the men are enabled to spend their sparo time in profitable study and wading. A largo hall, capable of seating several hundred men Is equipped with a stage f 1 where not only amateur but tho best . professional talent obtainable is pro- c nented on frequent occasions for tho enjoyment of the men. These entertainments enter-tainments as well as the motion pic-it pic-it turo shows, which are held on several ! nights each week are given with no admission charge of any kind. The r buildings are' non-sectarian in every ( way and the men, regardless of rellg- I f lous or fraternal affiliation are made to J rnni iint hfv are welcome. The policy I of tho Knights of Columbus Is to main- hi tain the recreation buildings for all the ' soldiers all the time. The buildings ! at Camp Kearny are but two of the seventy-three already in operation in this country and there are several more In France whore the same results I are being obtained. To provide amuse - I , ment of a wholesome nature is the ob- r ject of tho work and to safeguard the ' men In their idle moments from temp tation. Already tho people of Ogden have been called on to support a number of worthy causes end in every instance has tho response been very generous. Tho Knights during tho past week 1 have met with a like reception from nearlv everyone approached but there 1 ire still many people In the city who i 'or some cause or another have failed to contribute to the fund. Donations in any amount may be made at the Utah National bank where the Knights of Columbus will receive proper credit. I Tho vaudeville, show tomorrow night i at tho Orpheum, as announced In de tail in the Standard recently, will be a high class, 5-act offering by local talcni. A large attendance is expected expect-ed and it is hoped that all of the vaudeville lovers of Ogden will avail themselves of tho privelege of seeing a good show and at the same time helping help-ing along a work which is of vital ' lmportanco to the men now in train ing. Seat reservations may now be made at the Orpheum box office. : Tonight will be Knights of Columbus I night at the Ogden theater, Manager I' Perry' having donated a splendid per il centago of the receipts for tho day to I tho War Camp fund. William Des- fi ' mond in "The Captain or Ills Soul" and I" the comedy "Damaged No Goods" I combine a program of exceptional I , merit. Moving picture goers of the I city can do their bit toward helping I " tho cause of the Knights of Columbus 1 by going to tho Ogden this evening. |
