Show I j BOLES' SMOKER ) i SATURDAY NIGHT 'i ; j, ; A good sized crowd of boxing fans attended the Eagles' smoker on Sat-i Sat-i .in-day. in the club gymnasium. The program of boxing matches and athletic ath-letic exhibitions came off as scheduled with one or two exceptions. In the main event, that between Jeff O'Connell and Billy Johnson, the fans got cheated out of a six-round go because be-cause O'Connell had the misfortune to fall in the third round and strain his 1 leg so badly that he could not continue. : The two boys were mixing it right j heartily until that time and It would have been hard to pick a winner. O'Connell slinned and strnrlr ihe maf I with considerable force. Jack Ryan and Bert Herrick went on for a four-round match with honors coming out even. Ryan was scheduled to box Kid Koko but the Kid did not show up. Whitey Johnson and Bill Burman ' gave a two round travesty of hit-or-miss boxing tactics next. They wore scheduled for four rounds. Jack Paine next gave an exhibition of bag punching and demonstrated to the audience that he certainly is skill -1 ed at lamming the bag. Young K.. O. Brown and Young Goody of New York next gave a four round exhibition match. At the finish j they executed a bit o"f comedian stuff , which gave the fans a surprise and a f -hearty laugh. Brown Btated thatJie is ; ready at any time to box for the bene-i bene-i fit of the Eagles' gym fund. Red Hogan j and Young Kent put on a four-round bout next and Hogari won the decision. Sailor Jack Smith, who refereed the . main event, accepted a challenge from J Jim Downing for a six round bout and , it is probable that this will be staged 1 for the next smoker. |
