Show FIND SAWDUST IN BREAD FED U. S. PRISONERS AMERICAN HEADQUARTERS, IN ' FRANCE, Nov. 27. (By The Associated Associ-ated Press) The examination of American prisoners released from German prison camps and reaching identification camps virtually has been concluded under the direction of army surgeons. Tho examinations indicate that the physical condition of the men in general gen-eral is as good as could be expected although some cases are roported' where the men complained of bad, treatment, bad shelter and poor and Insufficient food. Of several thousand men examined no evidonce was found of reported cases of Inoculatiori with malignant and contagious diseases. Sawdust in Bread. General complaint was made by both officers and men that their food was bad and their quarters uncomfortable. Specimens of bread brought back were found to contain sawdust and other coarse and inedible elements. In the majority ma-jority of casos, however, the men said thoJr housing and food were not much worse than the shelter and rations of the German soldiers. sol-diers. In one classification camp where ap-i ap-i proximately 7,000 men from .the Allied j armies were examined one French I soldier and five British soldiers com-'plained com-'plained of brutal treatment while there 1 was no complaint from any of the i Americans under this head. There 1 was general complaint at this camp of bad food, poor shelter and lack of ( liberty, but the conditions were no ! worse than had been expected by many officers. ! Americana who were confined in i German prisons with Russians and j Italians were found well satisfied with ' their treatment in comparison with that given the Russian and Italian , soldiers. |
