Show DRAFT DESERTER IS CAUGHT B! THE LOCAL POLICE George W. Woolweber, an alleged draft deserter arrested this morning on Twenty-fifth street by Detective A. B. Jensen, is now at tho city jail awaiting orders from tho San Francisco Fran-cisco draft board. Woolweber, who gave his name at the government employment office as George Scott, claims to be a resident of San Francisco. He says his father is a member of the San Francisco police po-lice force. When questioned regarding the name left at tho employment agency, Woolweber stated that he changed his name in order .to Increase his chances for work, as ho thought Woolweber sounded Gorman. When arrested, ho maintained that he was far from the numbers that are being used at the San Francisco draft board, but Detective Jenson Immediately Imme-diately telegraphed his local board for information. The San Francisco board ordered him held for induction. Detective Chambers says Woolweber Woolwe-ber is a soldier of fortune, having been in almost every large city of the United Unit-ed States. Chambers states that the alleged deserter has all the aspects of a German sympathizer or of a labor agitator, as he was said to bo laying down the law to a group of laborers when arrested. He will bo held until further details are received from San Francisco. |
