Show ofKlies Restoration of Great Paris-Chateau Paris-Chateau Thierry-Chalons Railway Valuable Result. LONDON, July 29, Via Ottawa. What seems the most valuable strategic strate-gic result to the Allies from the German Ger-man rclreat is the restoration of the great Paris-Chateau Thierry-Chalons railwaj, by means of which the Champagne Cham-pagne front is best victualled and which will bo an important factor in future military developments. The action now may even become stabilized between Soissons and, Rheims, where the Germans apparent-' ly are concentrating great forces, but tho fact remains that tho enomy is badly punished. Ho does not hold a single inch of ground gained sinco July 15 but within a fortnight has been forced to abandon nearly half tho advantages ad-vantages gained by his offensive of May 27. Whether the enemy will settle down to resistance on tho plnteau southwest of tho Vesle or continue his retirement to th heights between the Veslo and the Aisne will depend upon the extent of his losses and the numbor of his reserves. Indications hitherto are i I that his losses have not been exces- flnfl sive. It is regarded as certain at l j least that the salient will be flattened t nJ to a straight lino from Soissons to , l Rheims, which alono" would shorten tho MM Allies' lino by thirty miles and lessen ml the demands on tho Allied reserves.
