Show STORES WILL CONTINUE TO CLOSE AT 8 O'CLOCK : ON SATURDAY EVENINGS Ogden merchants who have been closing their stores at 8 o'clock on Saturday Sat-urday evenings, decided unanimously at the meeting of tho Retail Merchants' association last night, to continue the practice. Several are keeping open until un-til 9 and 9:30 o'clock, although the plan of closing at 8 has been generally accepted among tho merchants as a. good move and has met with great favor fa-vor among the employes. The discussion discus-sion came up at tho meeting and the merchants who have been closing early ear-ly expressed themselves as entirely in favor of continuing tho practice, de-spito de-spito the action of tho others. A suggestion emanating from tlte council of defense to facilitate delivering deliv-ering and more efficient service was discussed also at the mooting. It is that deliveries for morning be telephoned tele-phoned or ordered from the stores the afternoon before they are required and that deliveries for afternoon be ordered or-dered the morning before they aro required. re-quired. No action was taken on this suggostion, but -it is understood that the merchants will urge housewives and purchasers generally to co-operate on the problem. It is the opinion of the council of dofenso that tho delivery system can bo considerably Improved by this method meth-od of ordering and that, if the time comes when men aro scarce, the benefit bene-fit of it will be really <. The merchants also considered the situation with regard to Labor day, deciding de-ciding that all should close at noon on that day. Soveral of the merchants will havo their stores represented by fioats, but the association as a whole has taken no action as yet concerning participating. |
