Show ARTILLERY GIVEN LAY-OFF. SALT LAKE. Aug. 28. Members of the Utah artillery were given a two days' layoff from hard work, beginning begin-ning yesterday, when the second typhoid ty-phoid inoculation was administered by regimental physicians. Major Willard Christopherson, who superintended the inoculations, ordered the artillerymen artillery-men to their tents, following the second sec-ond injection, and will allow them to rest until the effects of the prophylactic prophy-lactic have worn off. As yet the men have shown little Ill-effects Ill-effects of the typhoid Inoculations. The. vaccinations which wore given a few days ago are Just beginning to become bothersome and some hundred men can be seen at all times carefully shielding their sore arms. More than 300 horses will bo brought from tho state fair grounds today to-day in order that mounted drills may begin tomorrow. The mounts are to be those used on tho Mexican border and are reported to be In excellent shape after months of resL Picket lines have been established north of the camp and water troughs are now boing Installed. Following tho arrival of the horses, two drill periods will be held daily. According to information received yesterday, the regiment will not leave Salt Lake for the Linda Vista concentration concen-tration camp until September 10. Advices Ad-vices from Camp Kearney, where the Utah boys will train, are that the grounds will not be ready to receive them bofore September 6. At that time, however, the congestion of the railroads, due to the movement of the drafted troops, will be such that the da.tfi.will bo, extended. untiLSeitemhr- r 10, according to the officers. The training of the artillerymen will bo continued at the present until within with-in a few hours before they leavo for the concentration grounds. Practically Practical-ly every detail will be completed before be-fore this time and the breaking of camp will be the matter of but a short time. Although work was on the taboo list yesterday afternoon, many of the men who were not affected by the vaccinations vac-cinations could be seen voluntarily at work on the guns. The four pieces now used by the regiment were thoroughly thor-oughly cleaned and polished, while the same time the non-commissioned officers of-ficers explained the working parts. oo |
