Show C1MP1SRIPI FIREMEN'S COITEST The annual convention of tho Utah State Firemen's association came to a close last night, with the guests congratulating con-gratulating the firemen of Ogden on the splendid way they had entertained. With three days' businoss and entertainment, enter-tainment, tho delegates were steadily "on the go" from morning till late at night. The events ended with a grand ball at Glenwood last night, after the day had been spent at Glenwood participating partici-pating in a fine program of sports, for which prizes woro awarded. Tho slogan yesterday was "on to Brigham," as that city has boen selected select-ed as the convention city in 1918. I By defeating Payson and Sandy in the two principal events of the day, the Spanish Fork firo department captured cap-tured tho state championship In the annual tournament. Tho Spanish Fork team took first place in the state championship cham-pionship race and tho hose coupling contest, thereby winning four silver cups in addition to cash prizes. Until today's tournament the Eureka firo department de-partment held the state championship. Five fire departments of tho .stato woro represented In tho four contests, v.'hich were held at Glenwood park during dur-ing the afternoon. From tho standpoint of state honors, the Payson team takes second place. The results In the four ' contests: ! 1. Ladder ollmblng with hose Run 50 feet, attach hose to hydrant, attach - nozzle, one man to mount ladder to top ! with nozzle, company to consist of not more than four men. Payson, first; ilme, 5 seconds Midvale, second; time 7 4-5 seconds. 2. State championship race Run 100 yards to hydrant, attach and lay line of hose 100 feet, break couplings and attach pipe, all connections to be made tight, teams of not more than sixteen men. Spanish Fork, first; time, 24 seconds; Payson, second; time, 25 4-5 seconds. 3. Champion hose coupling contest Use three lengths of hose laid straight from hydrant, run 50 feet, uncouple un-couple and take out center section, j connect first and third sections, attach to hydrant and put on pipe, team to consist of four men. Spanish Fork, first; time, 13 3-5 seconds; Sandy, second; sec-ond; time, 14 seconds. 4. Firemen's 100-yard dash Payson first; time, 10 seconds; Ogden, second, sec-ond, and Spanish Fork, third. |
