This mnrnlng the following resolutions resolu-tions were adopted by the commissioners commis-sioners of Salt Lake: Whereas, Realizing Ihe inerease In the cost of food and prospects for higher prices, and the scarcity of a great many farm and garden products that could bp raised successfully suc-cessfully on small tracts of land that are and will" be vacant and uneullivated in this county; and Whereas, That through an organized or-ganized effort a large amount of foodstuffs can be produced that will relieve the distress of a large number of poor; Now, therefore, be it resolved, That this board appropriate (in their judgment) a sufficient fund to be used to encourage, instruct and, where necessary, furnish seed to those in need; and Be it further resolved, That as planting time is near, we instruct the county horticultural inspector to Immediately co-operate with the county farm demonstrator to supervise and encourage the planting plant-ing and cultivating of the vacant tracts of land as a relief to the poor. Our city commissioners are to be called on to aid in plowing the ground for the vacant-lot gardens and to plan to supply water. Knowing the mayor and his colleagues to be patriots of the highest order, we feel that it is but necessary to point out the purpose pur-pose of the move to obtain their earnest, earn-est, enthusiastic co-operation. |
