PROGRAM li HOB OF THE ENLISTED Specially featured by the presentation presenta-tion of $100 by the junior class to the Ogden chapter of tho American Red Cross, and patriotic addresses by Senator Sen-ator Joseph Chez and Dr. A. S. Condon, Con-don, a notablo program was staged this afternoon at the Ogden High school. The event, primarily, was tho annual senior day exercises, but it was also mado the occasion of a patriotic celebration cel-ebration in honor of the twenty High school boys who have enlisted in tho military service of their country. Some of the boys aro now in the marine corps and the officers' training camp in California and others are members of the local Utah national guard troops. These latter were present' at the celebration and were the honored guests of the student body. These wore cleverly written and created continuous con-tinuous merriment while being presented. pre-sented. The 1917 class Ivy wa planted plant-ed on tho school grounds at the conclusion con-clusion of the exercises, with the characteristic ceremonies. The junior check of $100 was presented pre-sented by Margaret Thomas, president of the class, and represented the funds raised for tho purpose through the medium me-dium of the junior prom held in the Borthanahall several weaks ago. The gift was received by Rev. John Edward Ed-ward Carver, president of the local Red Cross organization, with words of eloquel appreciation. The addresses of Senator Chez and Dr. Condon echoed tho praiso of the community and nation for the young men who displayed the courage of their forefathers by enlisting for the struggle in which the nation's honor is to bo upheld, and their remarks were frequently interrupted by enthusiastic enthu-siastic applause. At the conclusion of tho program tho entiro assembly of moro than 600 stu-donts, stu-donts, teachers and visitors, sang "America." This afternoon the annual souvenir edition of tho Classicum waa issued and the subscribers expressed the opinion that it Is the most comprehensive comprehen-sive and artistic that has yet been sent out from the school. oo |
