Show LOCAL SOLDIERS ARE TO 8E I MOVE BY AUGUST S Troop K, First Utah cavalry, needs sixteen more men to fill its war strength quota and troop B needs one more, according to a compilation made this morning by Captain J. R. Ward and Captain W. E. Kneass. While troop B was apparently filled to war strength Saturday, the examination of enlisted men resulted in two volunteer volun-teer being" rejected and this brought the command to just one below the total necessary. Both national guard captains expressed ex-pressed the belief that the additional men will be secured within a very few days and are confident that both troops will have enlistments to full war strength before the national army registration day, June 5. Important announcements regarding the Utah national guard are contained in the Army and Navy Journal of May 19, copies of which have been received at the armory. These bear the official information that Utah's military organizations or-ganizations will be called into service on August 5, scarcely more than two months away, and that it is to consist con-sist of 3200 men. The Journal says- "While efforts will be made to recruit to war strength, the additional units to be callod out will not be delayed until this Is accomplished. The guard win be called at Its present strength- and sent to mobilization camps to be whipped Into shape." Reviewing other orders, the Journal says- "After a short stay at local armories to permit the receipt and distribution dis-tribution of essential equipment, the guard will be sent to divisional cantonment can-tonment campB. These will be the same that, as soon as the national guard has been trained and withdrawn, will house the troops composing the new national army." For this district, it is anticipated that the divisional cantonment camp will be near San Diego, and that the Ogden boys will be sent there not later lat-er than September 1. As the new national army is to be called for mobilization mob-ilization about September 1, according to present indications, it Is presumed that the Utah national guards will be in this cantonment camp for only about a month and will then leave for the front, the Journal showing that the state military forces will not be held In such camps during any part of the national army training. |
