Show CULTIVATE THE ART OF BEING NATURAL Someone has well said, "Until you are true to yourself you are at best a failure," And this i& as true today as It was centuries ago, when It was first minted In the silver of Bpeech. Tho man or the woman who is not true to self must inevitably be a failure, fail-ure, as far as the larger life is concerned. con-cerned. "To thine ownself be true, And it shall follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man" sang the Bard of Avon. Hundreds of times has the same thing been said in different ways, per. haps, but with the same thought in mind, and the truth has sounded down the centuries. The True Self. To be true to self is, after all, much the same as to be true to type. It Is living from within; expressing the real self in the dally living; being genuine genu-ine instead of pretending to be. There are so many kins of people in the world, and each is so interesting inter-esting in his or her own way, that it does seem strange that any one should ever seek to adopt the mannerisms of another ego. Yet we see this constantly. constant-ly. The daily feminine woman endeavors endeav-ors to acquire the mannerisms or her mannish friend. The youthful attempts to assume "blase airs and the old try to charm with the graces of a day that has gone. And so it foes, each following follow-ing a will-o'-the-wisp which must lead to the final day of reckoning, when the mask will be dropped and each will be known for tho inner self. Why one Should ever seek to emulate emu-late another it is difficult .o dlscern-The dlscern-The nightingale Is not all like the eagle. Yet the nightingale is adored for Its exquisite song and the eag'e Is held as the very mightiest of all birds, and each is worshipped in a different way. Because the red rose is glorious in its beauty does not signify mat the delicate pink is not dear to the hearts of those who love the beautiful. One would not depreciate the glory of the sunset because the sunrise is wonderful. wonder-ful. To thine own self be true do not pretend to be gay and giddy in manner if you are naturally timid. The gentle violet is loved beyond her sisters. Do not assume an air of false pose if you are naturally vivacious. The vivid flowers have their own charms. False Charms'. Be what you are. Live your life from within, not from without. Seem what you are. Be not someone else, but yourself. Do not ape some imaginary imagin-ary charm, but develop those graces and talents with which Nature has endowed en-dowed .you. So, surely, we shall grow. For self development is, after all, nothing noth-ing more than cultivating mat which is our own not putting on the garment gar-ment of some other personality. And in this workaday world it is er-sonallty er-sonallty that counts. And the counterfeit coun-terfeit never yet had the genuine ring. Be ourself; be genuine. oo An ostrich is a much more valuable animal because of its tall than a polar bear. |
