Show IRS. E. BICHSEL HEAD OF THE FEDERATED CLUBS OF UTAH Provo, Oct. 20. The Utah Federation Federa-tion of Wotoen's clubs closed a three days' session here today with the election elec-tion of officers for the ensuing two years. The new officers are Mrs. Edward Bichsel of Ogden, president; Mrs. E. O. Leathorwood, Salt Lake, first vice president; Mrs. G. W. Martin Mar-tin of Manti, second vice president; Mrs. Wynn L. Eddy of Brigham City, third vice president; Mrs. Chase Hatch of Heber City, fourth vice president; Mrs. John Culley of Ogden, corresponding corre-sponding secretary; Mrs. E. E. Nelson of Garfield, recording secretary; Mrs. David H. Madsen of Provo, treasurer; treasur-er; Mrs. W. F. Adams of Salt Lake, auditor; Mrs. Gould B. Blakely, Salt Lake, historian; Mrs. A. T. Lewis, Logan, Lo-gan, chairman of the bureau of information; in-formation; Mrs. E. E. Corf man, Provo, general federation secretary. Directors were chosen as follows; Miss Alice Reynolds of Provo, Mrs. A. J. Gorham of Salt Lake, Miss Winifred Jenson of Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. E, P. Le Compte of Park City, Mrs. Elizabeth M. Cohen of Salt Lake, Mrs. E. G. Gowans of Salt Lake, Mrs. George R. Hill of Logan, Mrs. William M. Stewart of Salt Lake, Mrs. M. D. Evans of Garland, Mrs. A. T. Mooney of Eureka. Chosen by Acclamation. Mrs. Corfman of Provo, retiring president of the federation, was nominated nomi-nated for re-election, was nominated for re-election by Mrs. W. E. Wher-rltt Wher-rltt of Heber City, with a second by Miss Alice Reynalds of Provo. Mrs. Corfman, after an expression of her appreciation, ap-preciation, declined to stand for reelection re-election and asked that he name be withdrawn. Mrs. Bichsel was then nominated by Mrs. G. R- Hill of Logan, Lo-gan, and the nomination was seconded by Mrs. Archie Bowman of Ogden. Mrs. Bichsel was elected by acclamation. acclama-tion. Mrs. Bichsel has held tho office of general federation secretary for Utah for a number of years and Is one of the most efficient members of the Utah federation, to which she has belonged be-longed for tho past twenty years. Mrs. C. H. McMahon of Salt Lake, nominated for the board of directors, declined to accept, on account of an appointment as sub-chalman of the civil service reform committeo of .he general federation. The legislation committee reported, through its chairman, Mrs. E. M. Cohen, Co-hen, of Salt Lake. Recommendations Recommenda-tions were made that the federation contribute toward the expenses of a survey of the state in the interest of the feeble-minded and encourage the establishment of a survey of motion pictures, prohibition of the manufacture manufac-ture of cigarettes and the teaching of social hygiene. Hospital is Visited. The delegates visited the State Mental Men-tal hospital this morning and wero given a lecture by Dr. George S. nyuy, supunuii'iiueui oi ino institution, institu-tion, concerning the causes of feeblemindedness feeble-mindedness and a plea for the encouragement encour-agement of steps to lessen it. Refreshments were served in the drawing room of the hospital, which was decorated In yellow chrysanthemums, chrysanthe-mums, In honor of the federation color. col-or. Each of the visitors was presented present-ed witli a bunch of the blossoms. Ogden delegates to the federation gave a luncheon at non at the Hotel Roberts, in compliment to jMrs. Josiah Evans Cowles, general federation president. The table, laid in a private dining rom, was decorated in pink Klllarney roses and carnations. The place cards were decorated In tiny yellow blossoms. Covers were laid for the following Ogden women, in addition to the guest of honor and Mrs. E. E. Corfman of Provo: Mrs. Edward Bichsel, Mrs. Archie Bowman, Mrs. Joseph Morrell, Mrs. Edith Mack, Mrs. Mattle Vogel, Mrs. J. T. Lynch, Mrs. George Kerr, Mrs. R. B. Porter, Miss Gladys Rich, Mrs. E. C. Rich, Mrs. S. S. Smith, Mrs. Harry Bagley, Mrs. C. W. Kendall, Ken-dall, Mrs. H. M. Barrows, Mrs. D. H. Adams. Mrs. A. B. Corey and Mrs. Thomas D. Dee. The majority of the delegates left on late afternoon trains. Mrs. CowleB went to Salt Lake at 5:50 o'clock, where she will remain until Monday night, when she will go to Nevada- to attend a state federation meeting in that state. nn |
