Show WMTF AHMITS Hit? nn ii t New York, April 2. Dr. Arthur "Warren Walto today abandoned every hope he may have had of avoiding th electric chair for the murder of John E. Peck, his millionaire father-in-law. In the prosenco of his attorney and of Dr. Morris J. Karpas, the psychiatrist psychia-trist who Is seeking to save Waite upon the grounds of insanity, the once debonair adventurer asked that newspaper news-paper men be called in and that he hi allowed to tell the whole story once and for all. But the Bellevue hospital doctors decided that Waite was in no condition condi-tion to receive the reporters. They forbado the interview. Furthermore, they decided that Waite shall not b arraigned tomorrow. Tho accused dentist will probably plead Tuesday or Wednesday. But his attorney, Walter R. Deuel, brought out of tho bleak ward 30 room the words of his demoralized client and retailed them to the newspaper news-paper men. According to Mr. Deuel, Waite said: "I am tired of all this delay and pretense The sooner It Is over the I'm not afraid to die. I'vo played the game and lost I'm through. "I'm not lnsano. That's all bosh, you know. I wanted to live luxuriously. luxurious-ly. I wanted money lots of It. I wanted it so much that I took this chance. I'd rather be dead than live the life of a piker. "I have already confessed that I killed Mr. and Mrs. John E. Peck my father-in-law and mother-in-law. Well, I'll go further now. I intended killing my wife, too poor little thing. God help me. I'm sorry for that little lit-tle girl back in Grand Rapids, "Now I want to atone. I am willing will-ing to die like any murderer should, and I'm ready to face my Creator and tako my punishment." nn |
