Show MENDICANTS UID TO DECEIVE THE ' PUBLIC H Quinn, Robert Gagon and Henry Robinson, drunks, were each sentenced sentenc-ed by Judge Barker to sorve five days In jail, or to pay a ?5 fine. Mathers Steiner, John Lee and Charles Hendricks, a trio of mendicants, mendi-cants, each received a -five-day jail sontonce. They were arrested on lower low-er Twenty-fifth street and when searched at the police station a cleverly clev-erly devised system for separating sympathetic persons from a small or large amount of money by act of contribution con-tribution was found on them. The system consisted of petitions bearing official appearing seals and deolaring the petitioner to bo physically physic-ally unable to work, and letters written writ-ten on Che business stationery of local loc-al physicians, recommending them as worthy objecLs of charity. |
