Show oo NEW SYSTEM FOR I SALT LAKE POLICE Salt Lake. Jan 5 As a result of the recent trip to eastern cities of C. A. Carlson, inspector of Salt Lake I City police, several Innovations will be introdured into the local department. depart-ment. Inspector Carlson visited for i several days with officials of the police po-lice department of Kansas City, Mo , which is regarded as being as nearly model for a city of its 6lze as any I In the country. One Idea which he brought back with him and which lias already been put into effect here j Is the booking of arrests by consecutive consecu-tive number. Propertv envelopes, into which are placed money and other personal effects of persons arrested, ar-rested, are now in use at the desk sergeant's office. The value of this system, according to Inspector Carlson, Carl-son, lies in the fact that certain "attorneys" "at-torneys" who ply their chosen profession pro-fession almost exclusively among unfortunates un-fortunates who fall into the hands of the police, are unable to learn the amount of moncv taken from prison-era prison-era when they are searched. Heretofore, Here-tofore, the amounts have appeared on the blotter. Another innovation which will go into effect when the police department depart-ment occupies new quarters in the old Y. M. C. A building, will be "a blind lineup" of prisoners each day Under the present system city detectives, detec-tives, when giving arrests of the previous pre-vious night the "once over,'' as po- ' lice parlance goes, are exposed to j the prisoners daring such inspection, j i I In future when facilities shall have been provided, the detectives will be entirely concealed and will see all prisoners, but will not he seeu themselves. It is planned to add at least twenty-five new patrolmen February 1. some of whom will be detailed in th-- M residence section of the city. |
