Show Chicago Grain Chicago, Aug. 18. Wheat made fresh advances in price today as a result re-sult of continued rains that interfered with threshing and shipping. According Accord-ing to high authority tho storms have rendered the situation acute as to thG movement of the bulk of the crop in some of the most important sections sec-tions of the winter crop region. Ad-sices. Ad-sices. however, wero still optimistic regarding the yield- in tho spring uheat belt. After opening unchanged to Y-8lc higher, with September at 1.06 3-8 to 1.06 3-1 and December at ?1.0C to 1-06 3-8, the market steadied at a moderate general advance above yesterday's close. Corn reflected the wheat strength. Trade, though, was light mainly between be-tween pit speculators. Oponlng prices which ranged from 1-4 to 3-Sc higher, with Sontember at 74 3-4c and Decem ber at 63 7-8 to 63 7-864c, were followed fol-lowed by slight additional gains. Wet weather was said to be having hav-ing even a more damaging effect on oats than on wheat. The oats market accordingly wa3 decidedly firm. Provisions held steady Uespite somewhat liberal receipts of hogs at western centers. Packers seemed to be supporting the market for ribs Profit-taking by holders led afterward after-ward to a setback in wheat but word of good sized export sales brought about a subsequent rally with September Sep-tember at $1.06 "and December 91.05 5-S. The close was unsettled at l-2c off to l-S3l-4c up compared with last night Later the cool temperatures prevailing pre-vailing induced further upturns in corn quotations.
