President R. It. Ward of tho Brooklyn Federal league club announced today that he had received and accepted pie formal .resignation of Lee Magee as manager of the Brooklyn team. Mageo, who had been sick for a few days, will continue to play at second base. His contract with the club still has two years to run and Mageo's chief reason for resigning is that ho cannot do justice to the club in the dual capacity of player and manager. Magee's successor was not named today. DILLON AND MONTANA BOY BATTLE TO DRAW Lewlston. Mont., Aug, 17. Jack Dillon Dil-lon of Indianapolis, and Tommy McCarthy Mc-Carthy of Lewlston this, afternoon fought ten rounds to a draw, in which the Indianapolis boxer had one round, the ninth, strong, and another by a shades The other rounds were even. Neither Nei-ther scored a knockdown, and both wore fighting strong at the finish The only blood drawn was from a butt on the check Dillon gave McCarthy in tho eighth. Dillon tinned the' scales at ids 1-2 and McCarthy at 131. HUTCHINSON TOPS FIELD OF GOLFER'S Chicago, Aug. 17. Jock Hutchinson of Allegheny, Pa., played true to the form he showed yesterday and again won a preliminary to the western open golf championship today. The event was at thirty-six holes medal play and Hutchinson topped a field of 130 professionals with a card of 151. Today's medal play was tho last practice which the professionals will have before tho start of the open championship tomorrow. The title will be decided by play at seventy-two seventy-two holes, extending over two days. Pairings for the western championship champion-ship event were announced today. Charles ("Chick") Evans, western amateur champion, was paired with Walter Hagen of Rochester. N. Y., former national open champion. SEASON ON DOVES dPENS AUGUST 15 Fred W.
